About Me

As an artist I take inspiration from the natural environment. When representing animals I try to capture their movement and structure as well as their presence, characteristics and spirit.

I am also fascinated by texture and enjoy working on the surface of the sculptures. When choosing materials I am guided by my instincts as to what gives the ‘feeling’ of the creature.

I like to work in the animal’s natural environment using materials found in the immediate area; this integrates the piece aesthetically with the site.

I choose to work with native species because, for the viewer it can offer a chance to see and become excited about species that they might see themselves. As an environmental educator I believe that the first step to creating pro environmental behaviour is appreciation and understanding of one’s own environment. A personal perspective to global environmental issues can be developed with empathy, which leads to behavioural change.
